What do we need?
As a Residential Supervisor/Education Coordinator you'll be responsible for coordinating the educational needs of each resident, either through an on-campus or off-campus school program, acting as the main agency contact for school personnel. Coordinator provides collaboration with residential leadership, treatment teams, JCPS personnel, and other applicable staff on and off campus to facilitate treatment needs of the residential clients in the school setting. Directly supervises residential first shift staff working first shift Monday-Friday in the on-campus school, as well as additional first shift staff during the summer months and holiday breaks when school is out of session.
Essential Functions:
Education Coordinator:
- Upon admission, become familiar with the educational background of all residents.
- Work with JCPS and agency staff to ensure residents’ educational needs and rights are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion.
- Register, enroll, and attend orientation for all residents.
- Ensure any resident who appears to need testing for special education services receives such testing and services within the required timelines.
- Ensure ECE meetings and assessments are being held as needed for all residents receiving special education services.
- Attends all ARC, IEP, 504, etc. meetings for residents or ensure attendance by SJCH staff.
- Act as primary point person for off-campus staff to contact when a resident is ill, suspended, or has any other need, then ensure any necessary paperwork, including an incident report, is completed.
- Assist in monitoring student progress, provide motivation for educational efforts, and arrange for necessary tutoring.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly Residential Admin meetings, providing thorough updates regarding residents’ educational progress and needs.
- Provide assistance and support in expediting student’s return to home school.
- Ensure therapists are fully informed of all pertinent educational information when a resident is returning home or entering a foster home placement.
- Attend or provide input to treatment teams for residents when possible.
- Regularly meets with staff to develop successful strategies for development of effective study routines, school attendance, and positive motivation for residents in the school setting.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director of Residential to ensure that weekly on-campus tutors are current on resident’s needs to best assist them during tutoring sessions.
- Coordinate with Advancement to post openings for volunteer positions within program on the volunteer software. Responsible for supervising volunteers within their program, including tracking volunteer hours by using volunteer software and ensuring any supervision requirements are met.
First Shift Supervisor
- Assume full responsibility for the operation, administration, and functioning of first shift staff, whether during the school year, summer break, or holiday breaks.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate the work and performance of first shift staff.
- Assure the implementation and monitoring of the program goals according to agency policy and procedure.
- Implement the child caring program by providing a therapeutic milieu during summer and holiday breaks. Respond to staff and clients' needs with fairness, objectivity, firmness, care, and concern. Observes behavioral and emotional climate within the group and with each individual staff and client and responds appropriately. Provide input into client's treatment plans and goals. Communicates with members of the treatment team in a timely and accurate manner about pertinent issues and updates concerning the client's progress and treatment needs.
- Assist first shift staff with coordinating transportation of children to necessary appointments.
- Supervise and assist first shift staff in fulfillment of daily and weekly expectations, e.g., basic hygiene, basic nutrition, housekeeping, proper attire, proper care of clothing and property, timeliness.
- Oversee, monitor, and supervise first shift staff to make sure they record significant behavior (positive and negative).
- Conduct regularly scheduled first shift staff meetings at least once a month to assure that proper and accurate lines of communication are in place between the residential staff, JCPS, administration, and clinical services.
- Performs competently in crisis management and maintains certification in SCM. Utilizes these skills as needed to assure the safety of the individual clients.
- Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
- Responsible for obtaining forty (40) clock hours of required staff development/training as set forth by St. Joseph Children’s Home Policy and Procedures, COA, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a related field preferred.
- Experience preferred in providing appropriate care to clients, winning their respect, guiding clients in their development, managing a home effectively, and in the participation, management, and implementation of a treatment program.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must become certified in CPR, First Aid, Safe Crisis Management, and Defensive Driver’s training.
- Valid and current driver’s license with insurable driving record required in order to assist in transporting clients when necessary.
Physical Factors:
- Standing for up to eight (8) hours.
- Reaching above the shoulder level.
- Walking.
- Bending at the waist.
- Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 50 max pounds.
- Repetitive kneeling movements to and from the floor.
- Sustained kneeling position for up to 10 minutes.
- Supporting another participant/client's body weight.
