Job Description

The Communications & Marketing Associate helps develop and implements communications strategies, approved by the Dean and Pardee School leadership, which will facilitate the production of internal and external communications and publicity.

Responsibilities include management of the School website and other electronic outlets, including social media; writing, reporting, and production of written and graphical content for all electronic and print mediums for internal and external distribution; media relationship management; event publicity; and implementation of School-wide communication strategies.

The Associate also advises Pardee faculty and staff on issues related to communication strategies and implementation. This position will be expected to seek out opportunities for publicity for the School and provide proposals on School Communications Strategy. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Affairs and Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Production: Report and produce written and graphical content for all web and print outlets for internal and external distribution. Content includes but not limited to the Pardee Annual Report and the Annual Magazine. Content includes written material for website and social media, graphics, email communications, newsletters, print media, such as newsletters, press releases, information about faculty accomplishments and research, etc. Regularly update materials. Manage web-based calendar listings of events, deadlines, etc. Develop assigned corporate level School publications and manage dissemination. This includes material produced directly by the Pardee School, or as requested by other BU units. 
  • Web Management: Manage School website and other electronic outlets, including social media accounts. Provide regular and timely updates to material and news content including writing news stories and developing accompanying graphics. Edit all material carefully for clarity and quality. Increase visibility and web traffic through basic SEO (search engine optimization) practices. Maintain stylistic consistency across various School-related websites and social media. Work closely with faculty and staff in the School and its units on developing material for the website including its news feed. Will work as primary liaison for relevant offices across the University including Interactive Design, on website issues. The incumbent for this position must be very savvy in the advantages of electronic media and social networking for the sake of creating and expanding good publicity for the Pardee School
  • Media Management: Maintain contacts and relationships with local, national, and international media outlets, as well as internal media units. Develop and maintain relationships with media outlet to improve media coverage of School activities and activities of faculty, students, and units. Duties include generating leads, pitching stories, managing interviews, writing for websites, and providing information and background research.
  • Advertising and Marketing: Work with Dean of Pardee School and others on developing and updating ongoing marketing strategy utilizing print, radio, online and social channels. Create original marketing content. Liaise with BU Marketing and Communications, as directed, for creation and preparation of placed ads. Research best practices and strategies for re-marketing and targeting specific audiences. This position will be expected to seek out opportunities for publicity and make proposals which will include logistics, pricing, and benefits.
  • Communication Coordination: Ensure University policies and guidelines are followed School wide including in all units and centers affiliated with the Pardee School. Assist all units and Centers in the School in establishing brand integrity and quality control for all communication activities (print and electronic). Serve as lead for communication coordination with staff with communication responsibilities in the various units of the School and provide advice for focused and timely communication of their activities on website and social media. Maintain School-wide calendar of communication activities in coordination with other units and centers in the School. Work closely with special events and projects team and unit administrators to ensure consistency in communication activities.
  • Event Publicity: Collaborate with event planning teams within the Dean's Office and administrators within School's units to implement effective and timely strategies to publicize events. Create print and web outreach materials to advertise, promote, and then report on events. Advise administrators on event communication management and ensure adherence to School and University communication styles and policies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
  • Three to five years of experience
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Graphic design and web design experience preferred
  • WordPress, Google Analytics and SEO experience strongly preferred
  • Vendor management and advanced experience with social media (Sprout Social, Instagram, Facebook, X); Canva and Mailchimp experience preferred.
