Job Description
The MicroStrategy/Business Intelligence System Administrator is responsible for maintaining the server platforms for the MicroStrategy business intelligence toolset. This includes working with analysts to understand data structure requirements, unit testing, verifying, debugging, and system documentation.
Responsibilities: - Platform Administration
- Caching Management & History List Management
- Manage Distribution Services
- Server Configuration & Tuning
- Server & Platform Maintenance to maintain stable BI environment
- Manage and migrate Object Manager packages between environments
- Monitor Log-Files (dsserrors.log, distribution services log)
- Schedule and monitor Intelligent Cube refreshes
- Troubleshoot failed IC's and other system errors
- Upgrade planning, testing and deployment
- Monitor backups of the system
- Library and workstation deployment and support
- License Monitoring & Management
- Set up and manage user, group, and role privileges
- Upgrade planning and execution
- Analytics Architecture
- Maintain data structure and relationships
- Maintain correct data source availability in MicroStrategy
- Develop and maintain schema objects
- Monitor and maintain status of Intelligent Cubes and element, object, and doc caches
- Conduct performance testing and troubleshooting
- Dossier Maintenance and Development
- Some light development may be required
- Follow all Viking data governance, approval and development processes
- Fully understand the requirement and create datasets.
- Create grid type as well as visually appealing dossiers.
- Per requirement, add fields to dossiers.
- General
- MicroStrategy certifications preferred.
- Develop a strong understanding of the source system(s) and the relationships within the data
- Support special projects, ad-hoc reporting requests, and issue resolution
- Develop and maintain documentation for reporting, tracking all changes
- Training and mentoring for less senior members of team
- Keeps up to date with all current and planned functionality within the supported reporting systems.
- Designs and executes test plans that are designed to find errors, ensure that the information meets requestor's specifications, and results in a quality implementation with no negative business impact
- Helps to debug errors found in testing.
- May be required to assist in project implementation teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirement: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (Preferred).
- A minimum of three years of experience in MicroStrategy business intelligence administration and SQL is required.
- Experience reporting over JD Edwards ERP database. (Preferred)
- Hands-on system management experience using MicroStrategy, versions 11.0 and higher preferred.
- Experience in MicroStrategy metric, attributes, groups and cubes required
- Full understanding of the MicroStrategy reporting platform.
- Advanced knowledge of relational databases
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with IBM iSeries DB2 and system desired (Preferred)
- Prefer proficiency with statistics
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with analysts both in IT and business staff
- Effective analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Desire to promote an open flow of information so that all stakeholders are well informed
- Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities
- Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
- Ability to create practical solutions that comply with IT security and functionality protocols.
