About the Addiction Psychiatrist & Researcher Position The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in collaboration with Integral Care and The Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist to join our faculty. The successful candidate will work with community partners to develop clinical, educational, and research initiatives aimed at transforming mental health care in Central Texas and beyond. We seek candidates committed to providing exemplary care within a growing community, with a strong record of restoring hope and promoting healthier, fuller lives for patients. The clinical role involves collaboration with Integral Care, a leading local mental health authority in Texas, accredited by the Joint Commission and a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) through SAMHSA. The position also involves participation in our ACGME-accredited Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship program, supporting the general adult residency program, and engaging in training, clinical programming, and research initiatives. Opportunities for research are supported by funding from the Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research, which aims to deepen understanding of substance use disorders and develop new treatments. Established in 1999 at The University of Texas at Austin, the Center is dedicated to advancing knowledge of these treatable brain diseases. General Expectations: Provide high-quality clinical care and teaching within your scope of practice. Collaborate with departmental and community leadership to develop service excellence and clinical outcomes. Mentor students, residents, and fellows, and contribute to residency training activities. Participate in multidisciplinary care models and innovative clinical practices across university systems. Clinical Practice Expectations: Demonstrate expertise in addiction psychiatry, including effective communication, psychosocial understanding, and age-specific psychopharmacology. Conduct and document psychiatric evaluations via in-person or telemedical methods, adhering to care standards and guidelines. Manage ongoing treatment in clinical settings, documenting all services promptly and professionally. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including trainees. Ensure compliance with policies, legal standards, and maintain necessary licensure and training. Research Expectations: Engage actively in research on alcohol and substance use disorders. Collaborate with departmental and cross-disciplinary research faculty. Foster an environment of scientific inquiry and scholarly activity, including teaching and presenting at conferences. Qualifications: Unrestricted medical license in Texas or ability to obtain one prior to appointment. Board certification or eligibility in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine, with a commitment to certification within two years. Eligibility for credentialing and appointment at the assistant professor level or higher. Proven leadership, teaching, evaluation, and communication skills. Ability to motivate teams and demonstrate innovation and excellence.
