Our graduate program is a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a specialization in Community Health Education. A summary of course descriptions for the undergraduate and graduate public health programs can be found in the online SJSU catalog. In the PHR Department, our faculty strive to offer students high quality learning experiences that are rooted in hands-on, applied learning. We aim to recruit new faculty who share our commitment to student centered learning, academic success, and professional and workforce development. Brief Description of Duties Teach courses in undergraduate and/or graduate Public Health programs Participate in ongoing assessment of student learning to continuously improve teaching and learning experiences and to adhere to accreditation requirements Work collaboratively with colleagues on public health curriculum-related processes such as teaching multi-section courses to ensure the quality, rigor, relevance, and consistency of our curricula Attend team meetings and training sessions as required Establish and maintain a high quality learning environment that is inclusive, student-centered, and contemporarily relevant Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their (campus, remote, and hybrid) classes Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity–including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation–through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid). Required Qualifications Master’s degree in public health or closely related field; Minimum two years’ professional experience in public health or closely related field; Commitment to teaching excellence in public health-related subject areas; and Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of diverse student populations. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of teaching effectiveness in health-related subject areas at university or college levels; Leadership or supervisory professional experience in public health or closely related field; and Ability to effectively design, teach, and assess undergraduate and graduate courses in-person, online, and in hybrid formats. Compensation Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. To learn more about range placement, please see University Policy S21-2. Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty--part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12).
