Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of a Principal Property Appraiser (PPA), the Senior Specialist Property Auditor Appraiser (SSPAA) in the Assessment Practices Survey Division independently performs and/or leads others in the most complex appraisal review, audits, and assessment practices survey assignments throughout California; develops and conducts training for the assessment practices survey program.

Working Conditions

  • Telework is available fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods of time.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport materials/equipment weighing up to forty (40 lbs.) pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Field work to appraise properties will require on-site visits of properties located on various terrain.
  • Appraisal and audit work may require traveling to field sites and inspection of the interior/exterior of properties.

  • Travel required fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Position requires employee to have and maintain a valid: California Driver’s License.
  • Maintain a Board of Equalization (BOE) appraiser certification including continuing education.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or equivalent programs.
  • Ability to learn and apply property tax laws and rules.
  • Travel may be required throughout the state up to fifty percent (50%) of the time by automobile and airplane; travel is typically Monday through Friday and spans several contiguous weeks.
