Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 at Middle Fork FWA for The Office of Land Management. This position will participate in groundskeeping and landscaping duties, gather information for fuel reporting, camping, hunting programs, site inspections, and security, serve as speaker/contact for groups and organizations, and will operate and perform maintenance on tractors, trucks, farm machinery, mowers, and power tools. The Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area is located 6 miles north of the Interstate 74 exit at Oakwood in Vermilion County. The area consists of 2,700 acres of grass, forest and cropland, and provides excellent wildlife habitat. The area is bounded on the east by Kennekuk Cove County Park and on the south by Illinois Power Company's Vermilion Station. The site received its name from the Middle Fork branch of the Vermilion River which flows between Kennekuk Cove County Park and Middle Fork State Fish & Wildlife Area. The Middle Fork River passes out of the Middle Fork Wildlife Area into Kickapoo State Recreation Area about 10 miles downstream. Essential Functions

  • Serves as working supervisor. 
  • Participates in site maintenance activities such as building repairs, vehicle and equipment maintenance, minor construction, minor electrical and plumbing repairs at Middle Fork, Kickapoo, and all satellites.
  • Directs and participates in site, facility, and maintenance repair. 
  • Assists supervisor with administrative office procedures. 
  • Performs public relations duties. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration, or public administration.
  • One year’s related functional supervisory experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities. 
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees.

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
